During our 12 days stay in Corfu we explored most of the island, so we decided to visit also the Albanian town of Saranda. It turned out to be good a choice and a nice way to fill your day. Saranda is a lovely town with many shops and restaurants. The trip is also very relaxed and budget friendly. Ticket prices for the hydrofoil are cheap while the journey lasts only 30 minutes.
We arrived in Saranda in under 35 minutes. Dolphins are fast! Ticket prices are also very good!

Public transportation connects the port with Corfu town and the rest of the island, while taxis are always available outside the terminal. Saranda is the leading destination in Albania, with tourism steadily increasing over recent years. Visitors are attracted by the natural environment, archaeological sites, and Mediterranean climate. There are plenty of sights in and around the town, including the archaeological site of Butrint (a UNESCO World Heritage site), the hypnotic Blue Eye, and the monastery of the Forty Saints. The picturesque horseshoe-shaped bay edged by beaches and a promenade offers a variety of bars, restaurants, and coffee shops. The local currency is Lek but Euro is widely accepted.

Saranda is 35.7 kilometres from Corfu port by boat. The trip takes 35 minutes by Flying dolphin high speed boat or 70 minutes by ferry boat.
It is situated on an open sea gulf of the Ionian Sea in the central Mediterranean, about 14 km east of the north end of the Greek island of Corfu.
Passport details of all participants are required at the time of booking (at least one day before the trip).
For citizens of an EU country, a valid ID-card or a valid passport is required on the day of travel.
Citizens of a non-European country subject to visa obligation in the Schengen zone need a valid passport and a residence permit or visa of the country belonging to the Schengen zone.
Citizens of a non-European country subject to visa obligation in the Schengen zone need a valid passport and multi-visa if they wish to travel from Greece to Albania and return.
Children under the age of 18 are not accepted on board without being accompanied by the two parents or an adult person.
Children being accompanied only by one parent, the other parent must sign a written authorization.
If the adult is not one of the two parents either parents or legal guardian must sign a written authorization.
Appropriate forms are available at the central ticket office at the Port.
If the parents are not in the Country of the departure port the signature of the authorization must be authenticated from the state of the children and to been translated from the embassy of the country of the port of departure.
If the parents are not at the port but in the Country of the port of departure, the signature of the authorization can be authenticated from a Police Department of the Country of the port of departure.
If the parents are at the port of departure the signature of the authorization can be authenticated from Passport Control Office.
The written authorization has to be remitted to the Passport Control Office and the Master or the Purser of the vessel.
Prices in Albania are generally quite low and the cost of living as a tourist is very affordable.
